Norcom’s Heather Overkamp earns national Society for Science and the Public grant

Heather Overkamp, a teacher at I.C. Norcom High School, has earned a $5,000 grant from The National Society for Science and the Public. The nationwide grant program identified 66 recipients of the grant (including Overkamp) from across the country to help students pursue scientific research.

With the funds, recipients work to share science research tools for students to use at home to ensure they do not fall behind in STEM fields during the pandemic.

“I am very grateful to the Society for providing me and my students with the resources we need to continue research after school. Students have opportunities to explore topics in science and engineering that they may be interested in pursuing after high school, but because of this grant program, they are able to dedicate time to comprehensively exploring those topics,” Overkamp said in a statement.

Since the program’s launch in 2015, participating students have been responsible for more than 4,000 unique competition entries, with many students entering more than one completion.
