Ian Robinson

Ian Robinson will serve as the School Board student representative for the 2017-18 school. He is a senior at Churchland High School.
 
Last year, the School Board established the Student Representative position in order to increase student input in Board decisions as well as to provide leadership opportunities. Ian follows MyKayla Moore, the first ever Portsmouth Student Representative who served this past school year. In the event Ian is unable to attend a meeting, the School Board has appointed an alternate student representative, Cassandra Tynes. She is a senior at I.C. Norcom High School.
 
Ian is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and the National Spanish Honor Society. He also serves as Captain of the High School Scholastic Bowl Quiz Team. Cassandra also is involved in school and community activities such as the National Honor Society, the Varsity Softball Team, and the Portsmouth Chapter of Delta GEMS.

The student representatives serve in an advisory capacity and do not vote, nor do they attend closed meetings. The student representatives do not have access to confidential information, including student or personnel records.

The student representative is expected to attend all regular, open meetings and to complete assignments for research and data collection when requested by the School Board. If the student representative is unable to attend the meeting, the student alternate will attend.

Portsmouth City School Board Student Representative

The Portsmouth City School Board values the opinions and concerns of students enrolled in the public school of Portsmouth. The student representative serves in an advisory capacity and does not vote. The student representative does not attend closed meetings. The school division provides the meeting agenda and other public materials to the student representative in advance of each open meeting.

The student representative does not have access to confidential information, including student or personnel records. The student representative is expected to attend all regular, open meetings and to complete assignments for research and data collection when requested by the School Board.
