Career and Technical Education prepares students for a smooth transition into the work force and/or post-secondary education upon graduation from high school. Skills acquired while in school will serve students well throughout their lives, no matter which career paths they ultimately choose.

Workers today must have the benefit of academic skills, work-place readiness skills, and technical skills. Our goal is to prepare students for success not only in today’s world but in tomorrow’s world as well.

 

Dual Enrollment

Our Dual Enrollment program is a partnership between Tidewater Community College (TCC) and Portsmouth Public Schools that allows high school students to meet graduation requirements and simultaneously earn college credit. 
 
Eligibility Requirements
  • High school junior or senior.
  • Satisfactory scores on college placement examination.
  • Permission from parent or legal guardian.
  • Recommendation by high school guidance counselor or high school principal.
  • Acceptance for admission to TCC.
Advantages 
  • Provides college-level instruction by qualified faculty to high school students during normal school hours.
  • May reduce time and cost of post-secondary education.
  • Provides access to college resources including academic advising and career counseling.
  • Convenience and affordability of community college tuition rates.

AC/13
(Academics and Careers after Graduation – the “13th Year”)

The AC/13 program is designed for juniors and seniors wishing to specialize in a career concentration. The program aims to offer high-quality courses that will help students be successful in work and/or college after high school.

Students attend AC/13 classes at the location they are offered which means they may leave their home school for part of the day. Contact your school guidance counselor for more information about AC/13 and other Career and Technical programs.
