Portsmouth Public Schools

McCabe Edward P. (Ned) McCabe was elected to the Portsmouth School Board May 6, 2008. Mr. McCabe is a native of Rockford, Illinois relocating to Portsmouth, Virginia in 1982. Mr. McCabe graduated from Boylan Catholic High School in 1974 and in 1978 he graduated cum laude from Loras College with a B.A. degree in History/Education. After teaching and coaching at Nativity Catholic Elementary School, Mr. McCabe moved to Portsmouth and began working in the business sector.

In 1998, a severe heart attack limited what he could do and in 2002 he was forced to quit work. In 2002, Mr. McCabe started Portsmouth Reads, a community literacy program for both pre-school children and adults in the City of Portsmouth. Mr. McCabe is also very active in the Portsmouth community serving on the following Boards and commissions:
