Nursing Services

The Office of Health Services includes a doctor, a nursing supervisor and a staff of registered nurses.  We work closely with students, families and school personnel to meet the physical and emotional needs of each student.

The functions of the school nurse include:

  • to assess and care for students who become ill during the school day
  • to provide first aid
  • to control communicable disease
  • to evaluate and respond to trauma and medical emergencies
  • to administer medications during school hours, and
  • to provide necessary nursing care for students with special needs.

The nurses also provide health assessments (screenings) by grade level and communicate any defects found to parents/guardians.  They also actively participate in all areas of the special education process and serve as members of the Child Study Committee.  Health records are kept on each student and are filed in their permanent educational folders.
