CHMS Mentoring Program

At Churchland Middle School we have staff members that volunteer time to mentor a student during the school day. The teachers meet with the students during their free time, and their goal is to help students make education personal to them. The mentor will offer the student encouragement and help them to develop and exhibit positive character traits. The mentor will also help the students come up with possible strategies to overcome obstacles that may be in the way of success. This school year we’ve had 23 staff members volunteer and be assigned students. Students participating in the mentor program were referred by teachers, counselors, and/or administrators. We had a Winter Social in December where the students were able to play games, line dance, eat, and have fun getting to know their mentors. The students and staff really enjoyed themselves. We look forward to our Spring Social soon.
